From Flooded to Fabulous:

Transforming Raccine and Dan's Ocean-Front Oasis into a Holiday Haven

On April 13, 2018, extreme weather and rain turned Kalanianaole Highway into a river and flooded hundreds of homes in Aina Haina and Niu Valley. Raccine and Dan S.’s beautiful ocean-front house was one of those affected. Their kitchen, living room, guest bedroom, multiple bathrooms, and beautiful koa hardwood floors were destroyed. 

 

Raccine and Dan were in a terrible bind. Every Christmas, their family that is scattered across the mainland comes home. Their usually empty house is suddenly filled with kids, grandkids, and the excitement of the holidays. They needed to finish before their family arrived for the holidays, and wanted a home suited for lots of people to enjoy.

 

First, we came up with a plan. They wanted to open up the kitchen and do something nontraditional, but still keep the beach-front elegance they enjoyed before the flooding. So we hired Jeff Hattermen of Accent Design to design the layout and accents, and then Moorhead brought everything to life. 

 

They were especially excited with the huge island we installed in the center of the kitchen –  perfect for entertaining guests – and the rustic ‘wood’ porcelain tile that gave the feel of beach wood and has the durability of porcelain.

 

Raccine and Dan (and their family) were amazed by the results. They love their new home. We were proud of the work, and excited that it was featured on the cover of Hawaii Home & Remodel Magazine in April of 2020.

Jeff knew exactly what he wanted for his new kitchen; down to the smallest detail. Most contractors hesitate to accept a project like this, but we did. Because we knew that we could deliver on his vision. Jeff’s Waikiki condo in the historic Colony Beach Building is a classic. But it is also relatively small and can be difficult to maneuver. Luckily, we have plenty of experience renovating condominiums, and brought his simple, yet elegant kitchen to life.


We were honored to win the Grand Award for Condominium Residential Remodeling from BIA-Hawaii Building Industry Design and Construction Awards in 2019 for this project.

Junko and her husband wanted to renovate their quaint 2-bedroom condo at Liliuokalani Gardens in Waikiki. They had interviewed multiple contractors, and were working with designer Nancy Schnur of Universal Interiors when we met them. They needed a contractor who could work around the strict rules of the condo’s management (short working hours, no holidays, limited elevator access, parking, water, etc.). But our team was up to the task. They liked our attention to detail and professionalism, and were thrilled with the results of the renovation, which turned their space into the peaceful oasis they had always wanted.

Many of our discerning clients turn to Ferguson for their plumbing finishes, lighting, and appliances, and when Ferguson envisioned a new showroom, they turned to us for this important job. Entrusted with the task, we executed the project with precision, speed, and a commitment to maintaining a serene atmosphere, even as the showroom buzzed with activity.


Guided by designs curated by Jeff Hatterman of Accents Design, we transformed the Ferguson showroom into a harmony of colors, textures, and functionality. This project was especially challenging, as Ferguson kept operations of the showroom ongoing, so we had to work quickly, quietly, and as cleanly as possible.
