Honolulu Bathroom Remodel with Doorway Arch / by Anne Fellini

The units and facilities in the One Waterfront Buildings by Restaurant Row are really nice, though their bathrooms are pink and very dated. These clients wanted a Wow! bathroom, and thats what we gave them. There used to be a large jacuzzi tub in this area, and it was framed with dated glass doors with golden trim. These clients decide to remove the glass doors all together so you can see the shower/tub area right when you enter the bathroom. If it is your first time entering their bathroom you will say Wow! when you walk in. The Arch is built in, and part of the building structure made out of concrete, so you can’t remove it. This is our second unit in this building that we worked on. Getting the tile to look nice on these arches is tricky.

We went with large 2 feet by 4 feet tile for the walls and floors. The large tile bring a elegance to a bathroom, that you won’t get with smaller tiles. The fact that these bathrooms are large for an apartment allowed us to do use these larger tiles. You don’t want to do large tile in a tiny bathroom. It just wouldn’t look right.

This bathroom used to have a bathtub. We ripped that out and installed a large walk-in shower. We call this a Tub-T0-Shower-Conversion. Most people of our clients are getting rid of their bathtubs these days. As you can see here, we were able to create a pretty large shower where the tub used to be. Clients wanted a shelf in the back to stack shampoo and conditioners instead of a more common soap cubby. It can be used as a bench as well. We decided to go with the fixed frameless glass panel, instead of a glass door. This gave them a more open feel, which is what they really wanted.

We decided to go with a large mirrored medicine cabinet instead of a solid mirror in this bathroom. This is their guest bathroom, though it is larger than a lot of condo master bathrooms. This building is begging to have all of their bathrooms renovated. They have the space for something special in the bathrooms, and the building is nice enough to be worth putting the money into it takes to create a bathroom like this.

Because the walk-in shower and tub are so incredible, we kept it simple with the vanity area. You don’t want to over do it. We went with off white shaker cabinets, with a quartz countertop and white square sinks. We added mirrored medicine cabinets on either side of the vanity. The clients were able to find the mirrors they loved and bought towels to match. We kept it simple and yet everything has clean straight lines, including the faucets.
